Halloween is here and time to start decorating for the first of many exciting holidays. When you rent, it’s hard to decorate to your heart’s content because of rules and regulations by your landlord. There are still plenty of ways to efficiently decorate your rental home for the holidays and it’s a great way to make it feel like you are a part of the neighborhood.
With limited space to store boxes of decorations and being limited to décor that is temporary or disposable, there are still tons of great ways to decorate your rental to get in the festive spirit this spooky month of October.
Window Clings
One of the easiest places to start is by decorating the windows with window clings. They are in expensive and take up no room to store for future Halloweens. Get pumpkins, witches, leaves and any other fall and Halloween-themed choices.
You could also do window shadows on other areas of your rental home. Just cut out outlines of bats, witches, and ghosts on black poster paper to tape them on the inside of your windows. When the lights go on at night in your house, they will look like shadows from the outside. Kids will love helping cut out the shapes.
Fresh Items from Nature
Another inexpensive and easy way to decorate is to grab fresh items from the outdoors. Pick up local veggies and foliage like whole pumpkins and colorful leaves. It’s a great way to decorate your front porch and yard.
Lighting and Sound
You can use this time of year to add something spooky like great lighting and sound effects. The regular white light bulbs around the house can be exchanged for something seasonal. Get a Halloween sound effects CD and maybe even a fog machine to attract trick-or-treaters. You could also create your own fog by pouring water over dry ice.
In addition, stretch cotton over bushes and trees to add spider webs to your yard, rent props like mummies and skeletons from a party store buy a pumpkin at the local pumpkin patch to carve into something spooky for your porch.
